Audi India claims to top sales chart, not clear on retail or wholesale
Date: 03 Apr 2015
Audi India claims that its
arch rival Mercedes-Benz India has been pipped to the post on the sales front
in the fiscal 2014-15. Audi says it has
retained the number one position by selling 11,292 units in FY 15, while
Mercedes-Benz India stated that it has become the first luxury manufacturer to
cross the 11,000 units annual sales mark in FY 2014-15. In fact, Mercedes
clocked the best-ever month (+53pc growth), best-ever quarter (3566 units,
+40pc), best-ever financial year 2014-15 (11,213 units, +17.5pc).
While the Mercedes-Benz India
figures are retail, it is not clear whether the Audi figures are retail or
wholesale. It has not mentioned that in its press release. Retail figures are
the actual sales figures because it is reflects the actual sales of vehicles.
Wholesale figures merely reflect the dispatches to the dealers.
Joe King, Head, Audi India
said he was happy that his company has retained the leadership position in the
luxury car market for two consecutive years, despite having only one major
launch (Audi A3) in the last fiscal year. “This clearly demonstrates the
strength of the brand,” he said Audi India grew by 11.51 pc in FY2015, while
Mercedes grew by 17.5pc. “We are now looking forward to an exciting 2015 with
10 new models including the Audi TT and new Audi Q3 coming up,” said King. The Audi model range in India includes the
Audi A3 Sedan, Audi A3 Cabriolet, Audi A4, Audi A6, Audi A7 Sportback, Audi A8
L, Audi Q3, Audi Q5, Audi Q7, Audi S4, Audi S6, Audi RS 5 Coupé, Audi RS 7 Sportback,
